- Holy book of the Church of the One God: the Metaphrasis
- The Prophet bade his followers only to follow the word of god, not man (he was delivering the former). he said to write no books, only to hear the word of god in all things. His was an evangelical faith, bereft of temples and icons.
- Of course, first thing they did was write books about his life, filled with commentary on how women should dress, how our god can beat up your god, etc. And so it became canon.
- There was a second phase of the CotOG, casting God as a more knowable, sympathetic creature--that's where things like the Parable of the White Stones comes from. This is largely the work of the late Auld Empire, during the rise of the Potentates.
- The old god of the Metaphrasis is a strange, unknowing god; if you really read the words of the Prophet with a critical eye, he isn't promising everlasting bliss and 72 virgins...he's just kind of warning people that god is a badass, and you'd better submit to him, or you're gonna have a bad time. New God sold better during the high Auld Empire.
